This month, we are excited to introduce mother, Sue Hammel, and daughter, Tammy Booth, both from Indiana. Tammy was born and raised in Elkhart, where she attended Indiana University (IU) in Bloomington. It was there she met her husband, Tom, and they married in 1987. Over the years, their travels with Tom’s mortgage and financial businesses have provided them with many opportunities. Tammy has worked in the architectural field of Interior Design.
The family eventually settled in the Triple Crown Development in Northern Kentucky, where Tammy joined a new Kindervelt group—KV #55.
This dynamic group’s first big event was the Markt Gala (Fall Event), followed by many successful endeavors including galas, golf outings, fashion shows, and “Mommy and Me” events. Tammy was deeply involved, taking on various roles such as Markt Rep for craft shows, Treasurer, President, Membership Chair, Merchandise Chair, Bakery Chair, and Liaison for the South Area.
When KV#55 folded, Tammy shifted her support to the City Wide Members group, where she served as Financial Advisor, Secretary, and Membership Chair.
Tammy also recruited her mother, Sue Hammel, into Kindervelt. Sue is from Goshorn, Indiana, and after moving to Elkhart, she married and had her children. She later entered the business world. Tammy credits Sue as a talented crafter, noting that her love for crafting comes from her mother. Together, they even hosted their own home craft shows and sales—some of Sue’s most cherished memories.
Sue’s involvement with Kindervelt grew after she helped Tammy with the Markt event. Upon retiring, Sue and her husband moved to Northern Kentucky, where she joined KV#56 in 2017. There, she found her creative niche, contributing her skills to craft booths, KV Krafts, the bakery, and more. She has held multiple roles, including KV Markt Rep, City Wide Markt Rep, Kindervelt Krafts Chair, and Bakery Chair. Sue deeply values her involvement with KV, saying, “Being a member of Kindervelt is a blessing. The long hours of planning, crafting, and fundraising are all worth it when we can contribute to the annual check donation.”
Tammy and Sue have worked together on numerous events, forming a great partnership. They share a love for traveling and spending time with family, including Sue’s granddaughter and Tammy’s niece, who live in the Triple Crown neighborhood. Tammy and Tom also have a vacation home in the Carolinas, where they enjoy golf (Tammy is both a social and competitive golf enthusiast) and beach activities with family and friends.
Tammy sums up their love for Kindervelt with a paraphrased quote from John F. Kennedy: “For of those to whom much is given, much is required.” Thank you both for giving so much to Kindervelt!
