About Kindervelt
Kindervelt is an organization composed of neighborhood or other common-interest groups joined together by a central, city-wide board of trustees. It is the largest auxiliary of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) and is recognized as one of Greater Cincinnati’s outstanding volunteer organizations. Our history
The histories of Kindervelt and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center are closely intertwined through decades of planning, growth, and collaboration to achieve excellence in pediatric health care. As multiple hospital services and their supporting auxiliaries came together in the early 1970s, the need for a unified auxiliary became clear.
In 1971, Cincinnati Children’s Development Director Willard Baily proposed a new model—semi-autonomous neighborhood and interest-based groups working together for the hospital’s benefit. With the support of board member Barbara Robinson, this vision became Kindervelt, meaning “children’s world” in German. The idea quickly took hold, and within months, Kindervelt’s first Board of Trustees was formed.
Mission and values
Kindervelt is dedicated to raising funds for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. We believe in creating an environment that provides a foundation for building friendships and productive relationships within the organization and throughout the community. Kindervelt is an opportunity for individuals to come together and make a difference in the lives of children.
